- External Affairs Minister of India on 4 June 2025 announced that India has been elected to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations for the term 2026-28. He expressed India's commitment to championing development issues and to keep working to strengthen the ECOSOC.
- The ECOSOC is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development - economic, social and environmental.
- During the ceremony, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted Dr Ambedkar's contributions as a key figure in India's freedom struggle and as the architect of its Constitution.

1852. Indian Railways launches AI-driven crackdown on automated ticket bookings, records highest-ever per-minute ticketing
- On 4 May, 2025. It was reported that, In a major step toward ensuring fairness and accessibility in its ticketing system, Indian Railways had launched a wide-ranging digital reform initiative aimed at curbing unauthorized automated bookings.
- The measure has significantly improved access for genuine users, especially during peak booking hours.
- In addition to backend improvements, Indian Railways has restructured its website delivery, with 87 percent of static content now served via CDN, which ensures faster page loading and reduces server load.
1853. Meghalaya launches Rs 20 crore Ward's Lake revival project, tourism dept takes control
- On June 4, 2025, Meghalaya launched a Rs 20 crore Ward’s Lake Revitalisation Program, transferring the iconic Nan Polok, a century-old artificial lake built in 1894, from the Forest Department to the Tourism Department to transform it into a premier cultural and recreational hub in Shillong.
- Chief Minister announced that tenders for the lake’s revitalisation, costing Rs 20 crore, will be floated soon, with additional funds for a 1.2-km promenade featuring plazas, shops, and restaurants, aiming to boost local musicians, filmmakers, and cultural events.
- The project includes sound and light shows, musical fountains, cafes, family entertainment zones, extended hours until 10 PM, road widening, and pedestrian walkways, as highlighted by Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh, who noted the lake’s status as Northeast India’s oldest artificial lake.

1854. IICA to establish its first Rs 100-crore regional campus in northeast
- On June 4, 2025, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, announced its first regional campus in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya, with a Rs 100.95 crore investment under PM-DevINE, aimed at advancing corporate governance and sustainable development in the Northeast.
- The five-acre campus, located in Shillong’s Knowledge City alongside IIM Shillong, National Law University, and NIFT, will serve as a hub for specialized training, research, and policy advisory, fostering academic synergy and supporting entrepreneurship, as stated by IICA DG Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh.
- Meghalaya Chief Secretary Donald Phillips Wahlang highlighted the state’s commitment to knowledge-led growth, noting a forthcoming Shillong airport will enhance connectivity, positioning the campus as a key academic and policy hub in the region.

1855. India adds 1,707 MW of new renewable energy capacity in May; Rajasthan leads with 33% share
- On 4 June 2025, It was reported that, India added 1,707 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy capacity in May 2025, with solar power contributing 89 per cent of the total additions.
- Out of the total additions, Rajasthan accounted for 33 per cent, followed by Gujarat at 18 per cent and Madhya Pradesh at 9 per cent. Utility-scale solar led the capacity additions with 955 MW, followed by rooftop solar at 559 MW and wind energy at 193 MW.
- In the rooftop solar segment, Tata Power added 111 MW, Amplus Solar installed 80 MW, and Fourth Partner Energy commissioned 54 MW during the month. These three players contributed nearly 44 per cent of the total rooftop solar capacity installed in May.
1856. Majhi launches ‘zero accident day’ to enhance road safety
- On 4 June 2025,Odisha CM launched ‘Zero Accident Day’ and ₹575.77 crore road safety projects, stressing that 75% of accident deaths are caused by speeding.
- The event marked the inauguration of 11 automated driving testing systems (ADTS) across various districts, implemented at a cost of Rs 24 crore. The CM also launched the second phase of the Disha (Driving Electronic Enforcement to Save Human Lives) project, worth Rs 215 crore, which will cover 485 km of national and state highways.
- The event saw participation from ‘Zero Accident Day' brand ambassadors, including Digapahandi MLA Siddhanta Mahapatra and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik, who shared messages on road safety awareness.
1857. Reliance Infra becomes first private Indian firm to develop next-gen 155mm artillery shells
- On 3 June 2025, it was reported that Reliance Infrastructure became the first Indian private firm to develop indigenous 155mm artillery shells under a partnership with DRDO.
- The company is setting up a ₹5,000 crore defence manufacturing hub in Ratnagiri, targeting ₹20,000 crore in domestic and export business.
- A new strategic partnership with Rheinmetall AG will enable Reliance to supply explosives globally, boosting India's defence export potential.
1858. ISRO's SHAR signs MoU with RTGS to boost real-time citizen services using space tech
- The Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Real Time Governance System (RTGS) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 3 June 2025, to improve the use of space technology for citizen-centric services.
- The collaboration will enhance the AWARE platform with satellite imagery and scientific inputs across 42+ applications spanning agriculture, weather, disaster management, urban planning, and so on.
- AWARE integrates data from satellites, drones, IoT, sensors, mobile feeds, and CCTV to deliver real-time alerts and advisories to citizens and the government via SMS, WhatsApp, and media and social media," The Chief Minister's post added.
1859. ISRO successfully completes third hot test of semicryogenic engine in Tamil Nadu
- On 2 June 2025,The Indian space agency completed its third hot test of the Power Head Test Article (PHTA), part of its semi-cryogenic engine project, at the ISRO Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu.
- The engine fired smoothly and reached 60 percent power during the short run. The burn remained steady and well-controlled throughout.
- The successful third test shows ISRO is on track. Each ignition brings it closer to a more powerful, reliable launch system for future missions.
1860. UPI transactions rise 4.4% in May to 18.68 Bn
- On June 1, 2025, across India, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) reported that UPI transactions surged to 18.68 billion in May—registering a 4.4% monthly and 33% yearly growth in volume.
- The total transaction value rose to ₹25.14 lakh crore in May, marking a 5% month-on-month increase, with daily average volume and value reaching 602 million and ₹81,106 crore, respectively.
- PhonePe led UPI app usage with a 46.73% share, followed by Google Pay at 36%; together, they processed nearly 83% of all UPI transactions, while newer entrants like Jar began expanding into the digital payments market.
